This Is the Worst Movie of the Year According to Rotten Tomatoes

The year is still young when it comes to movie releases. Plenty of films are yet to release in theaters in 2025, and we’ve got some heavy hitters on the horizon, from Jurassic World Rebirth to How to Train Your Dragon and 28 Years Later.

Speaking of the latter, we’ve already got a handful of horror movies this year, including sci-fi thriller Companion and creature feature Wolfman.

Unfortunately, one horror movie that was previously highly anticipated hasn’t so much as scared audiences as it has scared them away.

Released on March 28, director Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Woman in the Yard, starring Danielle Deadwyler, Russell Hornsby and Okwui Okpokwasili, currently (as of April 2025) has the lowest Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes this year.

With its disappointing 47 percent Popcornmeter score — which captures how general audiences feel about a film — viewers just didn’t find this one interesting or even scary enough to hold their attention. The movie has an even worse critical score, too, coming in at a rough 44 percent on the Tomatometer based on more than 60 reviews.

That’s a pretty big “meh” from both audiences and critics, and it probably doesn’t help that the title of the movie sounds a big derivative at this point in the horror/thriller genre. (We’ve already had The Woman in Black, The Woman in the Window…)

So, what’s The Woman in the Yard about?

The movie follows a family who live in a rural farmhouse in the middle of a big, grassy yard. Every day, a mysterious, shrouded woman sits in front of their home and inches closer. As the spooky figure continues to menace them, the family’s matriarch, who is grieving the death of her husband and also injured, must rally to save her children.

According to audience reviews, many found the film’s slow-burn plot “boring,” and were frustrated by the movies “open-ended” finale and lack of “details.”

Collet-Serra previously directed 2024’s airport thriller Carry-On, which critics loved.

The Taron Egerton-starring flick currently has an 88 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, audiences weren’t as impressed with that movie either: It only has a 51 percent Popcornmeter score.
