Although I didn’t have too much trouble with the puzzle today, there are several terms that can confuse you about how similar their definitions are. Using the right clues, you can identify which phrases work the best together to find the right answers.
The theme for today’s puzzle links it closely to how you would solve NYT Vertex puzzles, which tend to use a lot of visualization. When looking at Connections words presented today, try to look up definitions of words to see all their possible meanings, then imagine how they would appear. Since you only have four chances to make a mistake, you can take your time to form ideas around phrases.

I found that the theme surrounding today’s puzzle is the word “display,” which relates to how each word is presented rather than what it means. Most of the phrases I found were much easier to put together when I focused on how I would interact with them in the world. Unfortunately, this also made it easy to fall into some tricks the puzzle tries to create, causing me to make at least one mistake.
For those trying to figure out what categories make up today’s puzzle, try to follow these clues to get a head start:
- One category is about things related to how you would adjust what your TV displays.
- One category is about things related to terms you would use to describe memories you can barely remember.
- One category is about things related to words describing math terms.
- One category is about things related to additions to windows you display around your home.

At first, this section of the puzzle was hard to find, as I imagined CONTRAST and DIFFERENCE to pair together initially. However, after noticing there were few words to fit that theme, I saw COLOR, TINT, and BRIGHTNESS as terms that could refer to visual design elements. Although I thought that this applied more to photo editing terms, putting CONTRAST in this group still led me to the correct category.

FAINT and VAGUE are phrases that I already paired when starting this puzzle, as I thought that these words were meant to refer to something unclear. With that same approach, I added FAINT to compare to how VAGUE ideas could be when FAINT. This allowed me to include REMOTE for the same reason, as that term could also be used to describe something far off or indescribable.

This was the hardest part of the puzzle for me, as DIFFERENCE and PRODUCT were not terms I associated with each other. When I looked closer into QUOTIENT though, I realized that one of its only definitions was related to math results. Taking that information, I recognized that SUM, PRODUCT, and DIFFERENCE are all terms you would use to display different results for a math problem under various circumstances.

This part of the puzzle was perhaps the most straightforward, as DRAPE, SHUTTER, and SHADE all describe items you would use to add to window displays. Once I saw that BLIND could refer to blinds you put on a window as well, this section was solved very quickly. Having the other sections of the puzzle solved also made it simple to just pair the remaining words together for the last answer.
